CalSTRS remains ahead of schedule in its goal of reaching full funding, according to the organization’s 2025 Review of Funding Levels and Risks report.

The Collaborative Model investment strategy has saved CalSTRS more than $2.5 billion since 2017, including more than $550 million in 2024, the CalSTRS investments team told the board during its November meeting.

More than 184,000 members and their beneficiaries received a payment from the Supplemental Benefit Maintenance Account in October, approximately 48,000 of them for the first time, according to Chief Executive Officer Cassandra Lichnock’s report to the board.

Representatives from the California Retired Teachers Association presented a symbolic check to the board at its November meeting, showing the positive effect retired members have on their communities.

CalSTRS released its basic financial statements for the 2024–25 fiscal year at the November board meeting. The annual statements show the Teachers’ Retirement Fund remains in sound fiscal health, capable of meeting its obligations to members and their beneficiaries.
