At CalSTRS, we’re committed to making sure you understand your pension benefits and how to prepare for retirement.  And we thought you’d like to know what your fellow members are asking.

To that end, we’re launching an occasional series to share information on common questions we receive from members.

For our first installment, we’ll address an incredibly important question:

How do I apply for service retirement?

This is an exciting time in your life, and there’s a lot to think about.

To prepare for this transition, make sure you have all the information you need. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Am I eligible to retire?
  • How much will my benefit be each month?
  • Am I able to purchase service credit?
  • How do I choose my retirement date?
  • Do I want to provide a monthly benefit to someone after I die?
  • How do I want to receive my Defined Benefit Supplement funds?
